Discover more about team DUO STAY GOLD
A freelance motorsport writer and former executive editor of Motoring News and Motor Sport, he is a veteran of 35 years of Grands Prix reportage and the author of more than 50 motorsport books. He reported on his 600th Grand Prix with Russia in 2021. He is a member of the F1 Paddock Hall of Fame and on the FIA Media Working Group. His writing, on both current and historic issues, is notable for its soul and passion, together with a deep understanding of the sport and an encyclopaedic knowledge of its history. David is also acknowledged as the world expert on the history of land and water speed record breaking, has a passion for Unlimited hydroplanes, and is the British representative on the FIA Land Speed Records Commission. A former rocket car pilot, he averaged 275 mph and peaked at 297 in the STAY GOLD jetcar before walking away from a 250 mph inversion while attacking the 301 mph UK land speed record in August 2017. With a rebuilt car and a new sponsor he will make a fresh attempt in 2023.
